Sun Temple

In the northern most districts in north coastal Andhra is situated the only Sun Temple in the State. Some 3 km from the district headquarters town of Srikakulam, the Sri Suryanarayana Swamy temple attracts pilgrims from all over the country. The temple is constructed in such a manner that the rays of the rising sun fall directly at the feet of the deity twice a year. And these two days attract lakhs of pilgrims from all around. The Surya Jayanti Day or Ratha Sapthami brings thousands of pilgrims to have a dip in the Pushkarni and for Darshan of the Sun God. Srikakulam is connected by rail and stands just a little off the NH 5. It is just over 100 km north of Vishakhapatnam.
