Orang Wildlife Sanctuary

A miniature Kaziranga covering an area 72 km is only 65 km to the west of Tezpur town. 60% of the sanctuary is grassland. The animals to be seen in the sanctuary are the great Indian One-Horn Rhinoceros, Leopard, Elephant, Tiger, Sambar, Barking Deer, Pangolin, Hog Deer, Civet Cat, Otters, Wild Boar, Green Pigeon, Florican, Large Whistling Teal, Goose, Wild Elephant, King Vulture and varieties of water birds etc. The nearest railhead is Rongapara. Both Govt. and private buses ply regularly from Guwahati. The forest department has two rest houses one at Silbori and the other one at Satsimlu inside the forest. There are Govt. tourist lodges, circuit house and other private hotel offers comfortable stay.
