A tiger project has been undertaken in 1995 in Dampa Tiger Reserve developed in 1976.As per 1997 census tiger population of hilly Dampa spreaded over an area of 500sq km is 5.Besides there are hulak,gibon,leaf monkeys,snow loris, squirrel, elephant, leopard, antelope with branched horns, barking deer, gaur and many other wild animals are available here.

Keibul Lamjao National Park is world’s only floating National Park.Keibul Lamjao  means,a vast area dominated by tigers.As per 1997 cencus approximately 1146 thamin or one horn danvcing deer which are aboutto be extinct from the world lived here.Throughout the year they stay in the jungle close to the hill and during winter they are seen grazing in Fumdi.There are also wild boar bear,otter,panther and other wild animals.Winter is the ideal time for seeing a view of wild animals.During winter temperature drops to zero degree celcious.

Bandhavgarh National Park

Bandhavgarh National Park is situated at a distance of 164 km from Jabalpur and 237 km from Khajuraho spread at an area of 448 sq. km.  The forest of Bandhavgarh can be classified as moist deciduous, and the National Park holds all those animal species that are typical of this habitat Central India. Certain areas of the park are drier in character,  and hold such species as the Nilgai and the Chinkara. Sal forest occurs throughout the valleys, giving way to mixed forest that occurs where the soil is of relatively poor quality on the upper hill slopes,  on rocky outcrops and in the South and West. Grassy meadow patches occur in the valley and along the nalas.

Bandhabgarh is densely populated with tiger and other wildlife species. The great Gaur or Indian Bison,  can be seen with ease, as they come onto the meadows to graze at dusk; Sambar and Barking Deer are a common sight, and Nilgai are to be seen in the more open areas of the park. There are more than 22 species of mammals and 250 species of birds. Common Languors and Rhesus Macaque represent the primate group. Carnivores include the Asiatic Jackal, Bengal Fox Sloth Bear, Ratel, Grey Mongoose, Striped Hyena, Jungle Cat, Leopard and Tiger.  The artiodactyls frequently sighted are Wild Pigs, Spotted Deer, Sambar, Chausingha, Nilgai, Chinkara and Gaur. Mammals such as Dhole, the small Indian Civet, Palm Squirrel and Lesseer Bandicoot Rat are seen occasionally.  Among the herbivores, Gaur is the only coarse feeder. The vegetation along streams and marshes is rich in bird life. The vegetation along streams and marshes is rich in bird life. The common ones are Little Grebe, Egret,  lesser Adjutant, Sarus Crane, Black Ibis, Lesser Whistling Teal, White-eyed Buzzard, Black Kite, Cested Serpent Eagle, Black Vulture, Egyptian Vulture, Common Peafowl, Red Jungle Fowl, Dove, Parakeets, Kingfishers and Indian Rollers.  Reptilian Fauna include Cobra, Krait, Viper, Rat snake, and Python, Turtle and a number of lizard varieties, including Varanus.  There are two main ways of getting about in the park in a motor vehicle or on elephant back. Many of the  animals are now accustomed to both; even so, it is best to talk quietly and not make rapid movements. Jeep safaris are best undertaken from dawn until about 10 am and from about 4 pm until dark, as the animals are most active during these periods. A forest Department guide must always accompany you. This guide will be able to direct you and point out wildlife. Elephants are used every morning by the Forest Department for Tiger-tracking. If a Tiger is found, then the elephant will take you directly  to the Tiger either from the lodge or from a nearby point reached by jeep/car.

Pariyar Tiger Reserve

One of the world’s most fascinating natural wildlife sanctuaries, this reserve is noted for its geomorphology, wildlife and beautiful landscape. It was declared a Tiger Reserve in 1978. Here are 35 species of Mammals like wild elephants, gaurs, languor, somber deer and wild boars that can be sighted from the boats, the Nilgiri tahr in the higher rocky areas, the endangered lion tailed macaque confined to the evergreen interiors, bonnet macaque, Malabar giant squirrel, flying squirrel, tiger jungle cat, sloth bear etc. Here are 265 species Birds including migrants. The hornbill, stork, woodpecker, kingfisher, raptor, darter, cormorant, grackle, cluster etc. are found here. Reptiles are Cobra, viper kriat, and a number of non – poisonous snakes, bicolor frogs and crocodiles are found here.

Eravikulam National Park

It is situated 15 kms from Munnar. Main attractions here are the highest peak south of the Himalayas, is on the southern side of the Park. This is one of the wettest areas of the world. Fauna like tiger, panthers, wild dogs, civet cats, jungle cats, sloth bears, Nilgiri languor and wild boar are found here. Altitude : 300 to 1140 meters.

Temperature : Max. 47°C and Min. 28°C in Summer.Max. 23°C and Min. 7°C in Winter.

Clothing : Cotton in summer.Heavy woolen in winter.

Best Season : October to March.

Introduction:

One of India’s earliest tiger reserves, Betla features luxuriant tropical forest cover and a rich variety of fauna. The Betla National Park first established as a sanctuary and later upgraded to its present status. Average elevation is about 1000 feet and though the park is open through out the year the best time to visit is between Novembers to April. Spread over 250 sq km., the park is covered with good roads crisscrossing each other, to enable the motorists to have a closer view of the wild life in dense forests. Gaur, Chital, Elephants, Tiger, Panther, Sloth and Wild Bear, Sambhar, Nilgai, Kakar, Mouse Deer are permanent residents. Langurs represents in large families.

Getting There:

Air: The nearest airport ranchi, 140 km is connected with Kolkata, Patna, Mumbai and Delhi by Indian Airlines flights.

Rail: Nearest Railway station is Ranchi 25 km i.e. Daltonganj.

Road: Easily accessible by road. It is 25 km from Daltonganj and 140 km from Ranchi.

Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the about 50 km from Guwahati city in the Morigaon district. Pobitora is one of the major wildlife sanctuaries of Assam. Covering an area of 15.9 sq. km Pobitora is mainly famous for its great Indian One-Horned Rhinoceros. Besides, the other animals are Asiatic Buffalo, Leopard, Wild Bear, Civet Cat, etc. More than 200 birds and various reptiles are found in this sanctuary. The forest department has an Inspection Bungalow inside the forest. Visitors intending to visit Pobitora can visit can Guwahati also. Best season to visit is from November to March.

Manas National Park is situated 176 Km from Guwahati in Assam. Manas are one of the India’s most magnificent National Park. It is situated at the foothills of Himalaya. It is well known as one of the world Heritage Site having its unique Combination of scenic beauty and rare wealth of wildlife. Manas, also known for its Rhinos and Elephants, are Assam’s only Tiger project. A miniature Kaziranga covering an area 72 km is only 65 km to the west of Tezpur town. 60% of the sanctuary is grassland. The animals to be seen in the sanctuary are the great Indian One-Horn Rhinoceros, Leopard, Elephant, Tiger, Sambar, Barking Deer, Pangolin, Hog Deer, Civet Cat, Otters, Wild Boar, Green Pigeon, Florican, Large Whistling Teal, Goose, Wild Elephant, King Vulture and varieties of water birds etc. The nearest railhead is Rongapara. Both Govt. and private buses ply regularly from Guwahati. The forest department has two rest houses one at Silbori and the other one at Satsimlu inside the forest. There are Govt. tourist lodges, circuit house and other private hotel offers comfortable stay.

This Park is situated 80 km. from Tezpur. It covers partly in Golaghat District and partly in the Nagaon District of Assam. It covers an area of 430 Sq Km. The landscape of Kaziranga is of sheer forest, tall elephant grass, rugged needs, marshes and shallow pools. Animal sightings are guaranteed with great Indian One-Horned Rhinoceros, Deer, Leopard, Jungle Cat, Hog-Badger Cap Langur, Hoollock, Gebbon, Swamp Deer, Sambar, Hog Deer, Barking Deer, Sloth Bear and herds of Wild Buffalo grazing close to the park entrance. The rich bird life includes Egrets, Herons, Stoke, Fish-Eating Eagles and a gray Pelicon colony settled among the red cotton trees. The wild Elephant venture into it. Kaziranga remains open from mid-November to early April only.

Air: The nearest airport is Jorhat, 97 km.

Rail: The nearest railhead is Furkating situated 75 km. away from the Park.

Road: ASTC and private buses stop here on their way to and from Guwahati, Tezpur and upper Assam.

Nameri National Park is located about 35 km away from Tezpur, at the foothills of Eastern Himalayas, Nameri National Park covers an area of about 200 sq. km. Hill, deciduous forests and the river Jia Bhoroli have added an unique charm to it. The Mahseer of this region is legendary, particularly the golden Mahseer. Tourist can also go river rafting. Nameri is treasure house of many endangered species of wildlife like the White-Winged Wood-Duck, Tiger, Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Sambar, Elephants, Gaur, Indian Wild Dog, Civat Cat, Capped Langur, Jackle, etc. Various birds including four species of Hornbill and reptiles are also found in this national park. The tourist development as a tourist lodge at Bhalukpung, which is about 21 km from the park. There is also an Eco-Camp at Potasali, which provides comfortable accommodation and delicious food. Best season to visit the national park is from November to March.

Bura-Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the south bank of the river Brahamputra in Sonitpur district. The area is about 44 sq. km. It is considered to be the ideal habitat for Bengal Florican. Various species of migratory birds are also seen in this sanctuary. Other attractions are the Great Indian One-Horned Rhinoceros, Asiatic Buffalo, Wild Boar, Otters, Civet Cat, Leopard Cat, Barking Deer, and etc. various reptiles and fish are also found here. The forest has an Inception Bungalow at Bura-Chapori. Tourist may stay in Govt. Tourist Lodge and private hotels at Tezpur.

Namdapha begins at Margherita, a road railhead in Assam about 64 km. away.This national park is the only national park in the world which covers a wide range of altitudes of 200 – 4500 mts. It is also the only park where four of the cat felines are found, tiger, Leopard, snow Leopard and the clouded Leopard. Others prominent fauna Gaur, Elephant, Himalayan black bear,taking Mush deer, slow Loris and Red Panda are also found here. A number of primate species are seen in the park such as the Assamese Macaqus, Pig-tailed Macaqus, stunt-tailed Macaqus and the distinctive hodock gibbon-hornbills Jungle fowl and pheasants flap their noisy way through the jungle, which harbors other coloured bird species. Nandapha is botanist dream and it may tale as long as 50 years before a comprehensive survey of its botanical resources can be completed. There are more than 150 timber species one of rarest and endangered orchid, Blue Vanda, occur here. Namdapha is accessible from Dibrugarh via its entry point Miao, 112 km away. Best time to explore is in winter Tourist can stay at picturesque Deban Ghar Bungalow overlooking Noa Dihing River.

It is situated about 10 km from Tirupati. This sanctuary is located at Chittoor and Cudaapah districts. Its area is 506 Sq. km. Dry deciduous mixed forests with patches of moist deciduous; forests in the valleys. Some of the rare and endemic plant species like Red Sanders. Shorea talura. Shorea thumbuggia. Terminalia pallida, Sandalwood, Cycas beddomei, Syzygium alternifolium, Psilotumnudam etc., occur in this area. The animals found are Panther, Sloth bear, Sambar, and Cheetal. Mouse deer, Barking deer, Chowsingha, Wild boar, Wild dog, Hyena, Jackal, Fox, Civet cat, Jungle cat, rare and endangered golden gecko, slender loris, Indian giant squirrel, Tree shrew and Flying lizard. Accommodation is available at Tirupat, Rajampet, Talakona and Bakarapet Forest rest houses. Best season to visit throughout the year.

This sanctuary is located at Cuddapah district. Its total area is 464 sq km. Dry deciduous mixed thorn forest with deep gorges and steep slopes. Red sanders, an endemic species is found in this area. Animals found are Panther, Sloth bear, Cheetal, Sambar, Chowsingha, Chinkara, Nilgai, Wild boar and Fox. This sanctuary is the habit at for the rare and endangered bird called Double banded or the Jerdon’s Courser. Accommodation is available at Siddavatam and Cuddapah Forest rest houses. Best season to visit October to March.

It is located at Hyderabad at a distance of 30 km. Its area is 14.59 sq. km. Dry scrub jungle with grasslands. Originally this area was a Shikargah of the erstwhile Nizam of Hyderabad but due to over hunting and overuse the wildlife got depleted. With strict protection and management the wildlife of this area got re-established and at present there are more than 350 Black bucks, 400 Cheetals, and a number of Wild boars, small mammals, reptiles and over 100 species of birds. Best season to visit throughout the year.

Shivaram Wildlife Sanctuary

Located 10 km from Manthani, 80 km from Karimnagar & 50 km from Mancherial is the Shivaram wildlife sanctuary. This 37 sq. km riverine forest mixed with teak & terminalia is home to Marsh Crocodiles of river Godavari. It also harbors Panthers, Sloth Bears, Nilgai, Black Buck, Cheetal, and Python & Languor. The undulating natural terrain adds to the beauty of the sanctuary. The best season to visit is December to April. Accommodation is available at Forest Rest Houses at Mancheraal and Eklasaputr.

Rail: 50 km from Mancherial railway station.

Road: 10 km from Manthani in Karimnagar district by road.

It is located at Kurnool district. Total area is 6.14 sq km. Open grassland interspersed with dry thorny bushes. Home for the endangered Great Indian Bustard. Other animals found are Black buck, Bonnet monkey, Wolf, Jackal, Russel’s viper and Cobra. Accommodation is available at the Kurnool Forest rest house and Nandikotkur Inspection bungalow. Best season is visit October to February.

Road: 60 km by road from Kurnool railway station.
