Tonk is situated 76 km from Sawai Madhopur, 96 km from Jaipur, 104 km from Bundithis charming town picturesquely perched on the small range of hills. About 3 km from here flows the river Banas and presents a alluring picture. It is well connected by road from Kota, Jaipur, Bundi and Ajmer. Supposed to be founded by a Brahmin in 12th century. Another source ascribes it to Bhola Brahmin in 1643. The town was ruled by the Buner tribe of Pathans from Afghanistan and the town still bears the mark of their rule. It is famous for Bidri and Namda, garment and leather industry. The watermelons of Tonk are known for their quality and sweetness.
