Sariska Tiger Reserve is situated 33 km away from Alwar in Rajasthan. The 765 sq km thickly wooded reserve cradled in the picturesque valley of the Aravalis. Established in 1955, it is an excellent tiger sanctuary under the Project tiger. The dry deciduous forests of the Reserve are noted for their population of Tiger, Nilgai, Sambhar, Cheetal, four horned antelope and wild boar. Birds include Parakeet, Grey Partridge, Crested Serpent Eagle, Babbles & Bulbuls. The sanctuary houses ruined temples, a fort, pavilions and palace. The interesting spots are the sacred shrines of Buddha Hanuman and old temple of Nilkant Mahadev, the Pandu Pol. There are about three hundred Hindu and Jain temples constructed between the 8th and 12th centuries, which have great mythological, religious as well as historical significance. The Sariska Palace, built as a royal hunting lodge is a magnificent piece of architecture and restores the grandeur of the past.

Air: Nearest airport is Jaipur situated at a distance of 101 km.

Rail: Alwar is the nearest railhead at a distance of 33 km.

Road: Sariska can be reached by road connecting Alwar and Jaipur.

Ranthambhor National Park is situated 12 km away of Swai Madhopur. The 392 sq. Km. park comprises of dry decidous forests sprawling over an undualting terrain of the Aravalli and Vindhyan ranges. The park is one of the finest tiger reserves in the country under the Project Tiger. The majestic predators, assured of pretection, roam freely during the day time and can be seen at close quarters. Ranthambhor sanctuary has a large number of sambhar, chital, nilgai, chinkara, langur, wild boar and peafowl. A system of three pretty artificial lakes- Padam Talab, Rajbagh and Milak Talab, alongwith a number of anicuts are part of the biosphere. Besides enhancing the scenic beauty of the Park, there are an important source of water for the inhabitants of the Park. While deer congregate here to drink water, fresh water crocodiles can be seen basking in the winter sun to regulate their body temperature. The lake also attracts a large number of migratory and local birds. The local fauna of the Park includes leopard, hyena, jackal, jungle cat, sloth bear and a little population of pythons. The lovely Jogi Mahal overlooking the pretty Padam Talab at the foot of the fort has a Forest Rest House. Other accommodation outside the fort also ensures a comfortable stay. The best time to visit is between November and April. Jeeps are available to take you around the park.

Rail: Sawai Madhopur is the nearest railhead.

Road: Ranthambhor has well connection of roadways through Sawai Madhopur.

Pariyar Tiger Reserve

One of the world’s most fascinating natural wildlife sanctuaries, this reserve is noted for its geomorphology, wildlife and beautiful landscape. It was declared a Tiger Reserve in 1978. Here are 35 species of Mammals like wild elephants, gaurs, languor, somber deer and wild boars that can be sighted from the boats, the Nilgiri tahr in the higher rocky areas, the endangered lion tailed macaque confined to the evergreen interiors, bonnet macaque, Malabar giant squirrel, flying squirrel, tiger jungle cat, sloth bear etc. Here are 265 species Birds including migrants. The hornbill, stork, woodpecker, kingfisher, raptor, darter, cormorant, grackle, cluster etc. are found here. Reptiles are Cobra, viper kriat, and a number of non – poisonous snakes, bicolor frogs and crocodiles are found here.

Main attractions of Birds here are Indian rollers, cuckoos, common snipes, crow pheasants, jungle nightjars, kites, grey drongos, Malabar trogons, woodpeckers, large pied wagtails, baya sparrows, grey jungle fowls, Indian hill mynas, robins, jungle babblers, sunbirds and darters. Rare birds found here are Crimson – throated barbets, bee – eaters shrikes, fairy bluebirds, gray – headed fishing eagles, black winged kites, night herons, gray hornbills and Malabar hornbills.

Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary was built in 1975 for bird lovers.The area of this sanctuary is 0.67sq km surrounded by the cauveri river.The Cauvery river flows around a string of tiny islets, which together form a superb nesting site for waterfowl. Experience the excitement of a boat ride that takes you within an arm’s length of the birds as the crocodiles bathe in the sun.From june to november migratory birds come here and build nests here on the 750m high island.The most common birds  are  Openbilled Storks, Black Cormorants, River Terns, Painted Storks, Little Egrets, Night Herons, Spot billed Pelicans, Darters.Apart from birds u can also find here mammals like Bonnet Macaque, Monitor Lizard, Flying Box, Indian Gray Mangoose etc.The best season to come this sanctuary is december because the migratory birds are visible at this time only.

Gorumara Wildlife Sanctuary

Introduction:

Gorumara is West Bengal’s fifth National Park.This Sanctuary  is famous for its flora and fauna.The park has recorded fifty species of mammals, three hundred species of birds, twenty species of reptiles, and thirty species of amphibians. It is home to the Great Indian one-horned Rhinoceros.n this jungle consisting of trees like the odar, bahera, sirish, katush, berry, silk cotton and many other.A rare variety of peacocks display in winter.Forest department has opened Gorumara Nature Department Centre.Another attraction is Chukchuki Bird Observation Centre. Hornbills, Woodpeckers, Minivets, Pheasants, Cuckoos, cormorants, Mynas, Orioles and Pigeons are major bird species seen in Gorumara. Forest bungalows are available for stay at Murti and Gorumara.

Getting There:

Air: Bagdogra (13 km from Siliguri) is the nearest airport,which is approximately 140 km from Madarihat .

Rail: Nearest railway station is Madarihat, 7 km from Gorumara National Park.

Road: National highway 31 which connects Siliguri and Guwahati passes Lataguri (about 75km from Siliguri), Chalsa and Nagrakata near the park.

Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary

General Information:

Date of establishment: 1959.

Area: 159square.kilometers.

Location: The sanctuary is at a distance of only 13kms from Siliguri and comes under Darjeeling Wildlife division.

Main Wildlife Found: Royal Bengal Tiger, gigantic elephants, sturdy Indian bison, timid spotted, barking deer.

Best Time to Visit: Throughout the Year

Introduction:

Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary is in the valleys between Teesta and Mahananda.Taking the Hill Cart road piercing through the sal forest crossing Sukhna river 1/2km further is the entrance of the sanctuary.Afte crossing the Panchnai river begins dark and dense forest. Tigers, elephants, samber, cheetah, himalayan black bear, wild boar, different spices of deer and other wild animals roam around in the green shadowed Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary. Different types of birds is also in this jungle.Nature Observation Centre,Medical Research Centre, Orchidorium is there in the forest.An exciting jungle safari in the sanctuary includes the regions of Siliguri- Sukna – Golaghat – Gulma- Laltong and can be a real thrilling experience.

Air:To reach direct from Kolkata to siliguri, reaching Bagdogra by plane.From Bagdogra take bus or private cars.

Rail:Trains are ply from Kolkata to siliguri,NJP.

Road:From NJP Rly Stn rickshaw,auto,taxi and buses are availbale to go siliguri town.From siliguri town buses,taxi are available to go forest.
