Santhome Cathedral Basilica

Santhome at the southern end of Marina derives its name from Saint Thomas, and apostle of Christ who is believed to have come to Chennai sometime during 52 A.D. It is believed he was killed on Saint Mount just outside the city in 78 A.D. and interned in Santhome Beach where a Church later built. The beautiful stained glass windows at the Bacilica portray the story of Saint Thomas and the central hall has 14 wooden plaques depicting scenes of the last days of Christ. In the Cathedral is a 3 feet height Statue of Virgin Marry.
