Ken Gharial Wildlife Sanctuary

Ken Gharial Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1981. Its total area is 45 sq. km. Ken Gharial Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh and lies in north of state in Central India.  Alligator, Chinkra, Chital, Wild boar, Blue bull, Peacock, Monkey etc. are Principal Faunas are found here. Teak, Khair, Dhawda, Seja, Jamun (Syzizium), Pakar etc. are Principal Floras are found here. Ken Gharial Sanctuary is adjoining to Panna national park forest. Their landscapes are almost of similar type with features like green forests, wild animals, waterfalls etc.

Nearby tourist spots are Khajuraho and National Park, Panna, Rajgarh Fort etc. Circuit House, Khajuraho and other hotels of Khajuraho are available for accommodation.

Best season to visit is July to March. It is closed for visitors in Monsoon season. winter season is the best season, this time Gharials come out of the river onto the banks to sun-bathe.

Getting There:

Air: Nearest Airport is Khajuraho. Distance from Khajuraho airport to Ken Gharial sanctuary is about 25kms.

Rail: Nearest Railway Stations are Satna and Harpalpur.

Road: Nearest Bus stand is Khajuraho.

Entry ticket and guide rates are as follows:
2 wheeler : Rs. 40 for Indians and Rs. 200 for foreigners
Auto : Rs. 80 for Indians and Rs. 400 for foreigners
Jeep/car: Rs. 200 for Indians and Rs. 1000 for foreigners
Mini bus : Rs. 800 for Indians and Rs. 1600 for foreigners
Cycle or on foot: Rs. 15 for Indians and Rs. 150 for foreigners
Guide fees: Rs.40 per vehicle

Boating facility is available at Muhare Ghar. Rates are Rs. 20 per Indian and Rs. 100 per foreigner. Timings for boating are 7 am to 9 am and 4 pm to 5 pm. Boating and sanctuary are open from 16th October to 30th June every year as remaining part of the year is breeding season for Gharials.
