Bhubaneswar is now the capital of Orissa.The capital of the ancient Kalinga was Bhubaneswar.The Kalinga war,in which Emperor Ashok(272-236BC) himself participated,took place in Bhubaneswar.  The sea resort Puri and the world famous sun temple at Konark is a day’s package trip from Bhubaneswar.Between 7-12 centuries the number of temples at Bhubaneswar exceeded 7000.However all of them have not survive till date.The world famous Lingaraj Temple-one of the many sacred edifices in Bhubaneswar is 3.6km away from Bhubaneswar Rly stn.Lingaraj is a cluster of 108 temples.There is also Ananta Basudeb temple,Mukteswar temple,Raja-Rani temple,Parasurameswar temple and many other.There is no end to the number of temples at Bhubaneswar and it is also not possible for tourists to visit all.Many celebrations like Rathayatra,Shivaratri,Dolyatra,Chandanyatra held here widely.Tourists also should not miss-Orissa State Museum,Handicrafts Museum,Science Museum, Planetarium, Tribal Research Centre,  Rabindramandap,the Rammandir built by the Birla Group,the ISKON temple at Nayapalli and the Indira Gandhi National Park.Indira Gandhi delivered her last public speech on 30th october 1984 in this Indira Gandhi National Park.A statue of Indira Gandhi has also been installed here.
